What Should We Read Next?!

We need to select another round of books to read for our monthly book club. Janet suggested The Book Thief by Markus Zukas. I’ve discussed this book with my previous book club, and we had some amazing conversations. It’s a tough book to read, because of the content mainly (Holocaust), but also because it uses some complicated literary devices – flashbacks, flash forwards, and the narrator is Death himself telling the story in first person omniscience.

To provide some context, I’ve listed the books that we’ve read/will read so far. Remember when choosing books, it’s best to select titles that are appropriate, that will appeal to a diverse group of 12 – 19 year-olds, and that lend themselves well to discussion.

3/24 – Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins
4/21 – Cinder, by Marissa Meyer (Guest author appearance!)
5/19 – Divergent, by Veronica Roth
6/30 – Unwind, by Neal Shusterman
7/21 – Graceling, Kristin Cashore
8/25 – White Cat,  Holly Black

Please take some time to look at possibilities below. Will any of them fit our book club?

What do you think? Do you like any of the titles I’ve listed? I’ve done book clubs on all of them except the first fou. Do you have some other ideas? I have a few favorites from the list above, and I’m looking forward to talking with you about them this Saturday. I’m also looking forward to doughnuts.

Mmmm, doughnuts…..

  2. Great suggestions, Zane. I love the Sonya Sones books in verse, but I haven’t read Carolyn Mackler’s The Earth, My Butt, and Other Big Round Things. I’ve heard it’s a riot, though.. I’m adding it to my giant “to read” list right now!

“The Spirit Thief” (Saying right now that i can’t remember authors), “Divine by Mistake”, “Sword of Fire and Sea”, the “Beautiful Dead” series and the “Assassins Creed” are all pretty good books.
